Things to See & Do
There are many fun and educational things to see in and around Seymour. Whether you are here for a day, a weekend, or an extended visit, there’s plenty to see.
The best way to experience Seymour is with a planned tour. Stop by the beautifully restored old railroad freight depot that now houses the Jackson County Visitors Center and gets lots of literature on things to see and places to go that will give you a great taste of Seymour. At the top of the list are two wonderful driving tours that you can get at the Visitors Center.
First, if you are a fan of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member John Mellencamp, then his hometown of Seymour has a great CD tour. Just pop the CD into your car, follow the map from stop to stop, and experience John’s small town. This CD is available at the Visitors Center. Get started on your fourteen stop John Mellencamp tour. Counting stopping time, this tour will take about 2 hours.
Second, take our Jackson County Audio Driving Tour by cell phone. The map will show you how to find over twenty-five beautiful and historical places in Seymour and Jackson County. Counting driving and stopping time, this tour is easily a half-day.
Interested in experiencing some of our artistic outlets, then the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts (SICA) is for you. Home of one of the world’s most complete histories of printing and antique printing equipment, SICA is also a working gallery for painting, pottery, and sculpture. The building and grounds were donated by John Mellencamp and are a stop on his CD driving tour.
Want to stretch your legs? Where better than one of the trails at the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge just five minutes from Seymour. Want to sip some local wine? Chateau de Pique offers a beautiful setting and tasty local wines.
